Healthy Swedish Chocolate Balls

FIKA - a moment to appreciate the good things in life, by yourself or with company, usually accompanied by sweet baked goods and coffee.

If Sweden is known for three foods it's gotta be Swedish meatballs, Swedish Sticky Cake and Swedish Chocolate Balls. The last mentioned is what I want to discuss today. These small delicious chocolate balls is pure delightfullness and the traditional recipe of it, was probably one of the first recipes I learned to make as a kid. Was it just me who sometimes (read: very often aka always) ended up eating the batter like it was, and didn't even roll them to balls because the batter was so delicious? Yes, I get you. Today I want to give you a healthier chocolate ball recipe which is just as delicious and... where you probably will end up eating the batter like it is too. 


THIS RECIPE IS:

  • Delicious

  • Great dessert, snack or small treat when you need a lil bit of chocolaaaate for fika

  • Simple to make

  • Healthy

  • Nut Free

  • Can be made gluten free


Swedish chocolate balls

INGREDIENTS:

80 g pitted

30 g coconut oil

1,5 + 0,5 dl rolled oats

1 tbsp cacao

1 tbsp plantbased milk, cold coffee or water

a small pinch of salt

approx 2 dl shredded coconut


HOW TO MAKE:

  • Pit the dates and place them in a blender or a blender. Add the coconut oil, 1,5 dl of the oats, cacao, liquid and salt. Mix until sticky.

  • Add the last 0,5 dl of oats and just combine them in big takes using a spoon. Place the dough in the fridge for at least 10' until it has cooled a bit.

  • Roll balls of the dough and roll them thereafter in shredded coconut. Place once more in the fridge so they set a bit (it's more delicious) and then - dig in!

NOTES:

  • You can make this gluten free by simply using gluten free oats.

  • IF you don’t have agave syrup, you can also use honey, maple syrup or other syrup.
