The Ultimate Valentine’s Day Home Date Guide

How to get the perfect Valentine’s Date at home - with or without company? Let me tell you all about it!

We are getting closer to the big V-day and this year it will definitely look different for most of us. This doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be bad; just different. But good different. That is the reason why I today in this post want to guide you through “how to get that Perfect Valentine’s Day Home Date”. You don’t have to have a partner, a date or even a dog to do have this date with, you can do it with a family member, a friend (or friends?) or even - and probably the best - by yourself! Because let’s be real, all of us have at some point in our lives felt bad about not having a date for this commercial Valentine’s Day, but I think that we this year, just skip all the stress for this day and take the time to just recover, relax and show love towards ourselves foremost and most importantly! Valentine’s Day will also be on a Sunday and Sundays are the perfect day to have a cozy “stay-home-and-chill-kinda-day”, and this week we will just make it a little bit extra special with some Valentine’s day vibes. Check this out!

A day to recover, relax and show love

…That is at least how I am thinking a Valentine’s Day should be like, even if you’re by yourself or doing it with someone else. That is the reason I recommend you to first start your day with a long sleep in. Like I said, Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday too, and what better way to start this "special loving day” than giving yourself some extra sleep too?

It’s very common that you go and visit a spa on Valentine’s Day, but if you are restricted, in quarantine or have a national lockdown (or similar) and it’s hard for you to visit a spa, then bring the spa home to you! I do this quite often, filling our bathtub with a hot bubble bath, lit lots of candles in the bathroom, having something cold (alcohol free or with alcohol is your choice) to drink on the side in a nice glass (it makes a huge difference if you pick for instance a wine glass compared to the boring everyday glasses you use), and then just relax for an hour or two. Sometimes I don’t do much, just relax, while other times I have a book with me or have even placed my computer with Netflix (like a good Valentine’s day movie? More about that later!) on a chair. Then I can sit in that bathtub for hours just recovering after a rough work week, until my toes and fingers have wrinkled entirely.

It’s your choice If you want to finish the home spa session there or go further. If I’m going to be totally honest, I’m not the kind of girl who usually do spa treatments, facial masks, hair masks and other beauty related "procedures” often, but Valentine’s Day is really a good time to do it and show yourself some extra love. Give yourself the time to do these things because afterwards your really feel like a whole new person. This home spa thing can be done all by yourself or with someone else too. Please don’t force your dog onto wearing a facial mask though. I don’t support that!

Did anyone say food?

A Valentine’s Day without some yummy food is not possible, and after having a long home spa treatment I can only imagine how hungry you must be feeling! Valentine’s Day is most often associated to chocolate, and we’re coming to that delicious part too, but first let’s look over the main food alternatives. If you want to have it completely simple, you can just order food. That is totally ok and has its own charm too. I however, will probably do the complete opposite this year - put a lot of effort and time into the dinner. Cooking food, and putting a lot of effort and time into it, is my way of showing love, towards others and myself too. This year I want to go full on Valentine’s Day dinner, but this doesn’t mean that this is suiting for everyone and that is the reason I want to recommend some various recipes that are delicious to make, that are very suiting for both one person or if having someone else with you, and can be very Valentine’s Day suiting too!

Possible main food ideas:

If you want to have a three-course dinner with a first course/ appetizer too, I really recommend making my delicious seed crackers (vegan & gluten free) and serve with a nice spread on and some veggies, or making my grilled eggplant rolls with bulgur and herbs. Both recipes are so delicious and can be prepared since before.

Remember, you can find many more food ideas here on my blog if wanting something else.

PS. I haven’t talked about breakfast, lunch and possible snacks in this post but you shall obviously eat that too.

Did anyone say dessert?

After a nice dinner we want some dessert too and especially on a Valentine’s Day! Yes, chocolate is what’s typically known for being a Valentine’s Day dessert and that’s what we focus on, but I want to recommend some other options too, and know that you have many more desserts and sweets to find on my blog. Just use the search bar.

Possible dessert ideas:

Last but definitely not least…

…the movie of course. Last weekend, even though it wasn’t Valentine’s Day, I ended up watching all Bridget Jones’ movies by myself and I honestly enjoyed them so much. They’re the kind of Valentine’s day movies for those who like funny and quirky movies (possibly about a very relatable single woman), but I also want to recommend some other movies and a few (ok, two) tv-shows too. These are all very different kinds of movies and serials, with different moods, vibes and personalities, that you can watch by yourself, in a relationship, with a date or someone else too. Go through this list and if you haven’t seen these movies already I really recommend you to watch them one day even if it’s not Valentine’s Day.

If you want to, you can obviously eat your dinner or dessert while watching your movie too. If you haven’t ever had an indoor picnic I really recommend that too and you can see me have one of those indoor picnics here. It’s so cozy and so suiting to do on Valentine’s Day if not being able (due of for instance it being cold) to have one outdoors.

If you want to do anything more after this cozy Valentine’s Sunday, it’s your choice of course, but this is probably what my Valentine’s Day will look like. It’s not necessarily fancy but let us never underestimate the smaller things too. They can often be just as wonderful, or even better, than the fancy and more pricy things in our lives.
