Where To Eat: Takame, Gothenburg

There aren’t many things I like as much as eating at a restaurant with a nice company. Last week I had the chance of eating at a restaurant I’ve been wanting to eat at for almost a year, since the last time I had visited them, and now I’m here to tell you all about this dinner experience. Let me represent to you, Takame.

Takame is a modern, Japanese restaurant located on Sankt Eriksgatan in Gothenburg, Sweden. When getting to the restaurant, you will walk down a few steps to open the door and get into a basement restaurant. This half-underground restaurant has dark interior and darker light, but that really suits well with the whole dinner atmosphere. Along the walls, tables, chairs and benches are placed, facing the open bar where the chefs assemble all of the sushis. It’s a rather simple and yet modern restaurant, that works well with their choice of food they serve.

Takame is most known for its sushi and sashimi, and I, who absolutely love sushi and sashimi, was so excited to try out their food. We were a company of four who went to visit Takame, so we decided to order a 50 piece sushi and sashimi plate, a “Shake Teriyaki” (salmon) and their vegan springrolls. I drank an alcohol free raspberry mojito while my hubby drank their sour-sweet “Yuzu Heaven” drink. If you like sweet-sour drinks, I really recommend you to try that one. It tasted delicious!

Unfortunately I didn’t get a good shot of the springrolls, but I’d really like to first speak about how delicious these were. They are probably some of the most delicious springrolls I’ve ever eaten. The dough was light and very crispy, and made with a “kadayif”-similar-looking-kinda-dough that I have never seen for springrolls before. The filling was flavor rich and these fried springrolls were accompanied with a fresh salad and a nice dressing. I really liked these and you can eat these as an appetizer or as a side dish.

Now, lets talk about the main thing I wanted to go to Takame - the sushi and sashimi. This is what the place is foremost known for and I get why! We had chosen their 50 pieces sushi and sashimi plate, and we received this beautifully assembled plate with lots of various sushi and sashimi and suiting colorful and delicious sides. All of the ingredients were extremely fresh and the sushi bite sizes were big. I loved that you had more simple bites (like rice and avocado) but at the same time, the chefs had assembled some delicious versions too, for instance:

I really liked the Crispy California Roll with crab mixture inside and mayonnaise, and the bite with fried crab and chili mayonnaise. The Spicy Tuna Roll with Marinated Tuna was fantastic too. But in general, I really really loved this so much. If you’re a sushi/sashimi lover, I really recommend you to taste this if you ever are in Gothenburg.

This sushi is more expensive than sushi you buy in a lunch restaurant/takeaway, but I feel like that just makes sense. Here you buy for the whole dinner experience and of eating at a restaurant, and at the same time it’s not unfairly expensive. I think their prices are good for what you get and how big of slices the sushi are.

I’m in general more of a savory/food kind-of-person than for sweets/desserts, but after eating lots of savory/salty food (did anyone say soy sauce?) it was nice to finish this nice dinner experience with something sweet. We ordered all of the three desserts that they had, to test some of these Japanese desserts for the first time.

We ordered matcha ice cream, fried sesame seed balls that are served with matcha ice cream and their banan spring rolls that are served with ice cream and chocolate sauce. I have to say that the matcha ice cream was by far the best one. I’m usually not a fan of matcha because it has a very harsh, “grassy” texture, but this ice cream was very creamy and very nice to cool down with after the hot and salty food we had eaten before.

All and all, I say thank you to Takame for this delicious and wonderful dinner, and this is a place for you who like sushi/sashimi and want it to be more of beautiful restaurant experience rather than just fast takeaway.
