My mom always used to tell me that you know a restaurant is good if you see a lot of people visiting the place. Not many months have passed since a new taco and streetfood kiosk was opened in the neighborhood I’m living in and I can still remember how I passed the kiosk almost every single day in the beginning, seeing how more and more people were visiting the kiosk, only to be creating lines outdoors and waiting for their food to be made after a few weeks open. Today everyone, I want to tell you all about the newly opened Hermanos.

Hermanos is a taco and streetfood kiosk located on Sannaplan in Majorna, Gothenburg, Sweden. This place hasn’t been open for many months but have already made their name known and many hungry stomachs happy. Majorna is a charming area of Gothenburg known for its many small boutiques, cafes and restaurants owned by private persons and not big companies. This area is charming, cozy and you feel like you belong to a big family here. Hermanos being located in Majorna is no exception. As soon as you go in through the doors of Hermanos you get greeted by the team of employees working behind the bar with the food and the waiters walking around the kiosk serving food. You feel welcomed only entering the door and it’s always a pleasure feeling this way when you visit a place. For the record, I have been to Hermanos a few times now and it has been like this ALL times and not only after I had told them I would come by and take photos for this review.

But anyway, Hermanos has really killed it off with their kiosk and brand in general. The interior goes in orange and turquoise bringing those brand colors of theirs, combining with a little bit of Mexican spice, a little bit of 50s American style and just making it into their own thing. I’d say the Moroccan tile on the floor is the cherry on top of a very delicious dessert in this matter, and outdoors Hermanos have a super cute outdoor serving surrounded by flowers in pots and baskets. Love it!

Even if Hermanos might feel like a more Mexican and South American food kiosk, the idea of Hermanos is actually to make a fusion of various foods all around the world, creating their own kind of street foods of various kinds. Since the kiosk is fairly newly opened it’s understandable that they don’t have that many vegetarian or vegan alternatives yet, as they have “standard / ordinary” food. Hermanos have their standard menu though, and every week they have some weekly specials coming in, so if you are looking for veg food and are lucky, you might find something as their weekly special.

This time I went to visit Hermanos with my hubby, we decided to order:

  • Dirty Fries with Beer Battered Fried Cod.

  • Taco Pescado - Taco in homemade corn tortilla with beer battered fried cod.

  • Taco El Champinon Asado - Vegetarian taco in homemade corn tortilla with marinated mushrooms and peppers. This taco can also be made vegan if you ask for it.

  • Elote - smoked corn with mayonnaise, quest fresco and chili and lime salt.

  • Pickled vegetables

  • Nachos with Salsa - homemade/ kiosk made nachos.

  • Two drinks

About the food:

Ok, so where should I start? I think I have to start with the Dirty Fries, because those fries are S I C K. I think people in general underestimate the importance of French fries. If the potato fries aren’t good, it can destroy a complete dish. The fries of Hermanos though are exactly like I like them - thin, crispy and just delicious. That is the reason I also like to buy a small (which isn’t that small though) serving of fried fries with grated cheese as a side if you don’t want something as big and satisfying as the dirty fries. But about the dirty fries; the dirty fries are simply fries topped with your choice of taco topping. It can be chicken, fried fish, shoulder clod or marinated mushroom and pepper, and thereafter salsas, guacamole, pico de Gallo, cilantro, garlic dressing and/or other deliciousness. And, a whole bunch of grated cheese on top - of course. My hubby have tasted the Dirty Fries Pollo Asado before and says its beyond delicious. For me to be able to eat too though this time, since I don’t eat chicken, we decided to try out the Dirty Fries Pescado - meaning, the dirty fries with the fried fish, and honestly, I think it’s worth visiting Hermanos only for the dirty fries. They have created their own Mexican Fusion kind of “kebab plate” (that are very known and popular in Sweden) which is creative, new and is “dirty” but still feels fresh and is full of flavor.

The Taco Pescado is my favorite taco. It’s that fried fish, the same one that is on top of the Dirty Fried Pescado, that is so amazing. Even if the fish is fried, the tacos feel fresh and it has a perfect balance of different flavors and textures - natural, sweet, spicy, soft, creamy and crispy. I really love this one, and when ordering a taco you get 3 tacos that I’d say you feel full of.

Worth mentioning is that all of their tortillas are made of 100% corn. They are homemade, and when getting into the kiosk you can see them being produced behind the bar. In Sweden we might be used to eating tortilla made on wheat, but the real thing, in Mexico, is that the tortilla is made on corn. I love that Hermanos has kept it authentic and are learning Sweden how a taco really should be eaten.

The Elote was actually surprisingly delicious. It’s a small side dish of smoked corn with mayonnaise, quest fresco and chili and lime salt. Both me and my hubby liked this one. Again, it had that nice balance between soft, creamy and crispy, and natural flavor, spicy, salty and sweet.

Tacos and delicious streetfood is loved by people everywhere, but when visiting Hermanos you will probably start loving it a bit more. Hermanos is a place you can go with family, friends, partner, a date or even yourself, and feel welcomed. The food can be eaten by yourself or be shared with your company. Yes, it’s that kind of food.

Even if only being open for a few months Hermanos has made a very good impression to many people and I can personally say the same for me. I cannot wait til the day they start bringing in even more vegetarian and vegan options. Not because I feel like they need it (I really love their Pescado dishes) but because it will be interesting to see what they can come up with and create.

The food is made with so much love, creativity and passion, and I love that they have made streetfood feel fresh and in great quality, and not overpricing their food or serving small servings as many restaurant and places do.

Hermanos is for the people who like authenticity, simple but creative, delicious food. You better try it out.
