Where To Eat: Taki’s Balls, Melbourne AUS

One of the most fun things I experienced when in Melbourne was their so called Night Market. It’s held every Wednesday evening on Queen Victoria Market in Melbourne City and is absolutely amazing. You’ll find all types of street foods in little booths and food trucks from every imaginable corner of the world. Indian, Turkish, Australian, Italian, Chinese, Greek, what ever your heart desires! The food in combination with live music and vintage shopping and you’ll get a wonderful experience. Every time (because I went multiple times) I went to the Night Market I ended up at one of the food booths serving one of my absolute favourite desserts, namely loukoumades from Taki’s Balls.

Taki's Balls is a little booth serving the Greek dessert “loukoumades” that essentially are fried dough balls paired with some kind of topping. Eating these remind me of the summer days in Greece as a child. My Greek grandfather would buy me loukoumades when we were out on a evening stroll. They are delicious - and you can’t keep yourself from only eating one. You just can’t. Impossible.

Traditionally you’ll eat loukoumades with honey or sugar and cinnamon. Taki’s Balls did have this, but they also served the loukoumades with Nutella, Marshmallows or salted caramel that can be garnished with cookie crumbles or nuts. I, of course, tried all the different alternatives, and they are all fantastic! You will not get disappointed.

A typical serving at Taki’s Balls is eight balls and topping of your choosing, and it will cost you 10 dollars.

You can only find Taki’s Balls on The Night Market. They don’t have any café or such in the city, so if you want to get the chance to try their delicious loukoumades you have to found them on The Night Market. Be prepared to get excellent customer service from the lovely staff (wearing the funniest t-shirts!), but also long lines of waiting. This place is very popular, especially during the end of the night when people want to get their hands on a sweet dessert.

As the loukoumades lover I am, I can only recommend you to try this place. After a evening stroll at The Night Market in central Melbourne you should definitely end your night with some Taki’s balls.
