Have you never been to Asia? Let’s bring the Asian Cuisine to your home!

I have traveled to so many places, all around the world, but yet I haven’t visited any country in Asia. I really love the different kind of Asian cuisines, all form Middle East to Indian, to Chinese, to Japanese and to Thai. The variations are endless, but one thing they all have in common are the colorful food, the colorful and flavorful spices and the taste sensations! So here today, I want to give you my Asian Inspired dish of vegan fried tofu with rice and sweet chili sauce!

Are you a bit doubtful using tofu?

Everything about this meal is vegan, and I love making “traditional and ordinary” dishes vegan. I know many people tend to have difficulties easting tofu, due of the texture of it. This recipe though, is really so good. You get the crunchy fried outer, while it’s soft inside.

You start by marinating the tofu to give it flavor and thereafter you fry it. You get the recipe further down in the recipe.

THIS RECIPE IS:

  • Vegan

  • Colorful

  • Full of flavor

  • Asian inspired food

  • Can be served with rice, veggies and sweet chili sauce, or in an Asian inspired wrap

Marinated fried tofu

INGREDIENTS:

approx 250 g natural tofu

Marinade:

1 dl olive oil

11 tbsp finely chopped chili

1 lime, the zest and juice

2 pinches of salt

Frying:

1 dl wheat flour

1 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 1/2 dl water

1/2 dl wheat flour to breading

2-3 dl panko or bread crumbs

Neutral oil to frying

HOW TO MAKE:

  • Cut the tofu in dices or preferably slices (it's more simple if you fry bigger pieces). Mix the ingredients for the marinade and marinade the tofu in it. Let it rest in the fridge for 2 hours.

  • Cook your rice according to the instructions on the package. Cook the wok veggies in an optional kind of way in a wok pan.

  • Mix flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add water and whip until lean and lump free.

  • Place the other flour and the panko in separate bowls. Dip the tofu, one at a time, first in the flour then in the batter and at last in the panko.

  • Heat lots of oil in a cooking pan to 180 degrees. Fry some tofu a little bit at a time and let it rinse of on paper.

  • Serve the tofu as fast as possible afterwards with the rice, veggies and sweet chili sauce, because the crispy disappears as soon as the fried has cooled.
