Mermaid Green Spirulina Smoothie Bowls and The Health Benefits of Spirulina
“Under the sea. Under the sea. Darling it's better. Down where it's wetter. Take it from me”
Yes, I think you know where I’m going with this. I’m not talking specifically about Ariel, but I do talk about mermaids! Because today we are going deep, into the sea, to meet some mermaids. Or that is at least what it feels like when I see the colors of these beautiful breakfast bowls.
So, what makes this beautiful color? Green spirulina which I will tell you more about further down in the post!
Did you know these things about spirulina?
Spirulina is an algae and it lives both in the sea and sweet water. Today this one is mostly farmed in sweet water pools.
Spirulina is best processed on fasting stomach and that is the reason many people have their daily intake of spirulina in the morning; for instance as a morning smoothie or juice.
It is said that Columbus found spirulina in Mexico at the end of the 15th century, but it was first in the beginning of year 1940 that the French anthropology Dr. Creach realized that the Kanembi tribe in North Africa had an incredible health. This was because this tribe ate the algae from their lake. Today, Nasa uses spirulina on their trips to space, because of its concentrated nutrition.
Spirulina consists of much protein and essentiell amino acids. Except for this it also consists of chlorophyll, carotenoids and all vitamins except for vitamin D.
Spriulina has an omega 6 fatty acid which helps against pain in your chest and which solves PMS.
This is just a few of spirulinas many health advantages, and something that really can boost your health.
I have combined the spirulina together with a few other ingredients such as frozen green peas. Don’t get afraid by this though. Green peas are actually really good to use in a smoothie to increase the satisfaction, protein and nice color. Frozen green peas have actually also a kind of neutral flavor and contributes instead, also, to a nice texture. It’s perfect to use green peas in a smoothie bowl like this one where I also have used other ingredients to balance the flavors. Try it!
