Everything you need to know about the 4 golden powders: Lucuma, Carob, Acerola and Maca

Always stay Golden.

Four shades of gold. Four powders based on plants, fruits or berries. Four powders with lots of health benefits. And four powders which can be used in both baking, smoothies, breakfast bowls and desserts. Have you ever heard about lucuma, carob, acerola and/or mata powder? In this post I will explain everything you need to know about these golden powders, their health benefits and how they can be used in various recipes.

Lucuma - a vegan and gluten free powder which is made from a cool fruit from the Lucuma tree, grown in the Peruvian Andes. The lucuma fruit is delicious and sweet and is traditionally used to sweetening and thickening candy and desserts. It is also rich in minerals, betacarotene, niacin (B3) and iron. The lucuma powder I am using is organic and is made with a gentle drying and extracting so that the nutriton will be preserved.

Carob - a powder which is extracted from the carob beans from the carob tree which is originally found around the Mediterranean sea, but which nowadays can be grown in other warm ares of the world too. Carob consists of Vitamin A, B1 and B2, niacin and minerals. It is also said that carob has a positive effect when having high cholesterol. Carob has a nutty, nice caramel flavour with natural sweetening, which is a nice substitut for, or in combination with, chocolate or cacao.

Acerola - a vegan and gluten free powder which is made from the acerola berry which is gown on trees or bushed in Texas, Mexico, Panama, Brazil and Guatemala. The ripped fruit is juice with a sourish flavor, and the acerola is a very rich source of vitamin C. Oranges consist of 0,05& of Vitamin C. Acerola however can consist of up to 4,5 % vitamin C.

Maca - a vegan gluten free powder which is extracted from the Peruvian mata root Lepidum Meyen. It grows in Peru, on a height of 3000 meters, and is made in a gentle way so that all its nutriton will be preserved. It can be nutritions such as lipids, carotenoids, polyphenols and alkaloids, and the maca powder I have purchased are grown according to strict ecological criteria. Maca has a sweet and slightly nutty flavour.

The lucuma powder, carob powder, acerola powder and maca powder can all be used for instance in smoothies, drinks, and ordinary and raw baking and desserts. I like to combine these in combination with peanut butter or chocolate! Delicious!
